I read an interesting article in the Blood horse by Haskins who had the privellege to visit the horse of the year Zenyatta. She has a new buddy called Pirate Queen a docile mare to help her feel at home and has now been introduced to two other mares also.
Another new friend, though odd is an 18yr old cat named Ewok who hangs around her stall.
Zenyatta has gained 150lbs since retiring ( which is a good thing) for when she gets pregnant. No father has been named at the moment.
She eats 12 to 14 quarts of food during the day (hay and oats all natural), she does have however have a Guinness on her feed.During the day there is the constant supply of carrots and mints, with a banana as a treat for her breakfast.
So it looks as if Zenyatta is enjoying her retirement, which she well deserves, and hopefully she will make an excellent mother.
